You can put the probe all the way into the meat. If it still is not working, you can return it to our store. Kohl's has hassle free returns.

answer 2
You want the tip of the probe to be in the middle of the food. Too close to the pan or not far enough in the food and it will think it's done and it's not. Doesn't have to be in too far, just in the middle. Or if it's a whole chicken, in the middle of the thigh meat.

I have used it with gas grills. But now the probe doesn't work and I wonder if it's because of that. Not sure.

answer 2
You should not put the thermometer on the grill or in the oven. Your meat should be removed and then use the probe to see what the temperature is at. You can put the probe in your meat while holding the thermometer, but do not leave in and close the lid or oven door.

I use this thermometer for home brewing and it's perfect. The cord is almost 4'. It works well for the wort and for bringing it down to room temperature. I leave the probe in the wort constantly and haven't had any problems. Mine is around 10° off though and I can't figure out how to reprogram the unit. The above answer is wrong because the directions tell you how to calibrate the thermometer to 32° but I lost the directions....

You may need a new probe, but unfortunately we do not sell replacement parts. My suggestion would be to take it to the store and ask for an exchange because of a defective probe. Please see our hassle-free return policy for more info: http://ctx.ly/r/1fojh.

Question
My begining temperature read "Lo" instead of showing a temperator....why?
When I turn the Food Network thermometer on, the beginning temperature on the left reads "Lo", and stays the same throughout the cooking process. I thought maybe "Lo" meant a low battery, I changed it a couple of times with no success. Can you help me?

The Lo error message can occur for two reasons:
1. The temperature being sensed is below the low range of the instrument. (This is likely not the case for this customer)
2. Thermistor probe has been damaged. Damage is most commonly caused by one of the following reasons:
a. Probe has been submerged and moisture has gotten inside the probe to cause a short in the wires.
b. Probe has been removed from media by pulling on the cord, or cord has been stretched to damage wires inside.
Problem is not customer serviceable. If the product was received with this problem then it is covered under the Taylor Warranty.
